May 25th - Deadline for filing of Party Call from County Chairmen

DESIGNATING PETITIONS FOR COUNTY POSITIONS

*Savannah, Sodus and Macedon Republicans only now file designating petitions in place of the caucus process. Please call our office for details.

June

June 8th - First day for signing designating petitions

July

July 12th - 15th Filing dates for designating petitions

July 19th - Lastday to accept or decline designation

July 23rd - Last day to fill a vacancy after declination

Number of signatures needed for county position is based on 5% of the enrolled voters or 1000, whichever is less.

INDEPENDENT PETITIONS FOR COUNTY POSITIONS

July 6th - First day for signing independent petitions

Aug 10th - 17th Dates for filing independent nominating petitions

Aug 20th - Last day to accept or decline independent nomination

Aug 23rd - Last day to fill vacancy after declination

Signatures needed for independent petitions based on 5% of total number of votes cast at the last gubernatorial election.

(County Positions: 1302 signatures) Remember that a county position can only be nominated by a designating or independent petition.

TOWN AND VILLAGE CAUCUS INFORMATION

June 8th - First day to hold town or village caucus

Sept 20th - Last day to hold a town or village caucus

Sept 21st - Last day to file Certificate of Nomination made at a caucus or by a party committee

Sept 24th - Last day to accept or decline a nomination

Sept 28th - Last day to fill a vacancy after a declination from caucus

Please remember that a list of caucus participants needs to be filed with the certificate of nomination for the village only. A person can register the day of the caucus to participate and vote if of the party having the caucus (must be before Aug 25th if there is a primary election) Call our office for more information.

Caucus notices must be:

posted in public areas at the offices of the town/village clerk and the board of elections

AND

filing a copy of such notice with clerk and board at least ten days before the day of the caucus

AND

  1. either by newspaper once within the town/village at least one week and not more than two weeks preceding the caucus OR
  2. by posting in ten public places in the town/village at least ten days preceding the caucus.

Failure to comply with the above would make nominations null and void.

INDEPENDENT PETITIONS FOR VILLAGE AND TOWNS

July 6th - First day to sign independent petition

Aug 10th - 17th Dates for filing independent petitions

Aug 20th - Last day to accept or decline nomination

Aug 23rd - Last day to fill a vacancy after declination

Signature requirements for Town only independent petitions - 5% of the total number of votes, excluding the blank and void, cast for the office of governor at the last gubernatorial election in the political unit. Please see printout of signatures needed for independent petitions.

PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE FOR SIGNATURES NEEDED ON A VILLAGE INDEPENDENT PETITION

Village Town Independent petitions are different. The number of signatures for a village is based on population at the last census.

Make sure you have the correct Town or Village Petition form.

The only way to get on the ballot for a town or village position (with the exception of Savannah, Sodus, Walworth Republicans) is by caucus or independent petition. This prevents a primary for these positions. Call our office with any questions.

State / County Committee

  • State & County Committees of the Democratic and Independence parties file at Wayne County Board.
  • State Committee of the Conservative & Working Families parties file at the NYS Board of Elections.
  • Democratic, Independence, Conservative and Working Families Parties of the 7th Judicial District file with the NYS Board of Elections.
  • Republican Party file their petitions in the county which contains their portion of the assembly district.

 

Remember that 25% of all districts, (times 2) for county committee, that means at least 34 positions out of 134 are needed for that party to exist in Wayne County.

PRIMARY ELECTION - September 14, 2010

Polls open from Noon - 9 PM

August 9th - State Certification of Primary Ballot

August 10th - County Certification of Primary Ballot

August 20th - Last day to postmark registration to vote in primary or register in person at our office

August 25th - Last day for the board of elections to receive a change of address within Wayne County.

Absentee Voters For Primary

Sept 7th - Last day to postmark application for ballot

Sept 13th - Last day to apply in person for ballot

Sept 13th - Last day to postmark ballot. We must receive ballot no later than September 21st

GENERAL ELECTION - Nov 2, 2010

Polls open from 6 AM to 9 PM

Sept 27th - State certification of ballot for General Election

Sept 28th - County certification of ballot for General Election

Oct 8th - Last day to postmark registration form to vote in General Election

               Last day for Board to receive a change of enrollment

Oct 13th - Last day for Board to receive a change of address within Wayne County

Absentee Voters for General Election

Oct 26th - Last day to postmark absentee application or letter

Nov 1st - Last day to apply in person for absentee ballot

                Last day to postmark absentee ballot. We must receive ballot no later than November 9th
